The handsome boy pictured here is Gunner. He is my 2 1/2 year old male Pitbull. Before he came into our home, he belonged to a family friend so we were already quite familiar (and attached) to Gunner.
One day we found out that Gunner's owner was no longer able to keep him and he was headed to the pound. Unfortunately, unless he was headed to a no-kill shelter, this meant that Gunner's days were numbered. There are already too many Pitbulls in need of a good home and are often the first to be euthanized in shelters.
My husband and I could not stand the thought of this wonderful dog which we'd grown to love living alone in a shelter without love... and definitely couldn't stand the thought of his ultimate fate.
We decided to take Gunner in and drove three hours through a blizzard on Christmas Day to pick him up and our lives haven't been the same since. The love we have for him is immeasurable. He's the perfect pet and he fills my heart with joy every time even I think about him.
We spend a lot of time together cuddling which seems to be his favorite thing to do :)
Pitbulls are very misunderstood and I wish I could help even one more pitbull in need find a loving home. After our experience with Gunner and learning more about Pitbulls in general, I'm convinced that they are the best breed. It's become impossible for me to imagine my life without a Pitbull.
True love is rescuing a Pitbull. And Happiness in our home means having Gunner :)
