Stress Headaches





Stress Headaches, also known as Tension Headaches, are the most common type of headache

Both tension headaches and migraines can be brought on by emotional pressure and distress. While migraines aren't commonly a daily occurrence, tension headaches can be which can cause a major disruption in your life.

But even if you only get one of these every once in awhile, you'll quickly see how they can turn even the simplest tasks into torture.

There are many different reasons that one may get a tension headache. Most commonly, it is caused by tension in the muscles in the neck, back, and shoulders. However, they can also be caused by lack of sleep, exhaustion, poor posture, and anxiety among other things.

Many studies show that anywhere from 30-80% of adults occasionally experience stress headaches. They can last anywhere from several minutes to several days.

Tension headaches usually occur later in the day and can displayed as mild to moderate pressure on the sides, top, or front of the head.

Migraines are another type of headache that can be caused by stress. They are often much more severe than tension headaches and display different characteristics such as:

  • Sensitivity to Light
  • Sensitivity to Sound
  • Nausea and Motion Sickness

When we become stressed, many different things begin to happen within our bodies to help us survive the event. One of those things is an increase in chemicals which can cause blood vessel changes that bring on migraines.
